Dear Parents,
My name is Ashley Pileika, and I am your student’s social studies teacher. This will be my third year teaching in Honduras, and my second year at Discovery School. I was born and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut, and I attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill for my bachelor’s degree. My teaching license was issued by the state of Massachusetts.
Below is a list of the courses I will be teaching this year:
· World History (9th grade)
· Sociology/Psychology (10th grade)
· Philosophy/Political Science (11th grade)
· U.S. History (12th grade)
· Advanced Placement Human Geography (11th & 12th grade)
For specific details about content, expectations, and grading policies, please refer to the course syllabus.
I am excited to continue working at Discovery and living in Tegucigalpa this year. I firmly believe that social studies courses are integral to education as they prepare students to think critically, demonstrate citizenship, and develop a deeper understanding of the world in which we live. I hope your student will find the material we cover in class to be both challenging and meaningful.
Communication between teachers, students, and parents is crucial to academic success. I encourage you to check the course blog regularly and speak with your student about upcoming assignments. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns throughout the school year.
I look forward to a productive and successful year!
Best,
Ashley Pileika
