In APHG this week, we will continue with our unit on population. More specifically, we will focus on the significance of population pyramids, the Demographic Transition Model, the Demographic Accounting Equation, and the Epidemiologic Transition Model.

Wednesday 9/17 - Population pyramids on Canada and Bolivia due at the beginning of class. In addition to completing the pyramids, please answer the following questions:
1. What is Canada’s dependency ratio?
2. Based on Canada’s population pyramid, what stage of the Demographic transition model do you believe Canada was in, in 2010?
3. What is Bolivia’s dependency ratio?
4. Based on Bolivia’s population pyramid, what stage of the Demographic transition model do you believe Bolivia was in, in 2010?
Thursday 9/18 - Please read through the following websites and think about the documentary we began in class today ("The World in Balance"). What are examples of policies that a country can use to control population?
